Frei Antonio de Assuncao was born as Antonio Pinto de Araujo. Son of Simao Pinto Alvares and D Teresa de Almeida from Porto, Parish of Nossa Senhora da Vitoria. He was the Master of Philosophical and theological courses at the University of Sao Roque de Goa. He was the Rector of the Colegio do Populo 1775-77 and 1778 to 80. He worked in the Royal Chapel of St Anthony at Old Goa. He was elected Bishop of Mylapore by D Jose but died before he could take charge on 28th March 1783 around 9 months before the ship carrying his pontifical appointment letters reached Goa.
