Fr Aires de Mendonca was a student in the college of St Paul in 1564. In 1565 he studied Konkani at Chorao, a language in which he did most of his preachings. In 1566 he was ordained as a sub deacon. he was 33 years old when he was appointed as the Vicar of Mormugao. Before his tenure at St Andrews Mormugao he also worked in other parts of Goa as a co adjutor, domestic helper and also as a door keeper. Later on in life he did not keep very good health.
