Brief Historical Background:
The immediate objective of this society founded in 1790 by Fr. Peter Joseph de Cloriviere S.J. and Marie Adelaide de Cice, was the preservation of religious life, the very existence of which was being threatened by Europe at the time of the French revolution. The members of the society wear no out ward distinguishing habit and dedicate themselves to the service of the local church, in whatever way needed, according to the circumstances of place and time.
