Sebastiao Antonio de Carvalho

Sebastiao Antonio de Carvalho was born in Bombay. He was the son of Francisco Antonio de Carvalho a businessman who was born in Divar, Ilhas, Goa and the grandson of Rogerio de Faria who was a representative of the Portuguese government in Bombay. He studied Portuguese, Latin and English in the schools of Bombay and medicine at the medical college of Grant in Bombay and graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1851. He worked for 3 years at the hospital of Jamsetjee Jejabhoy in Bombay,  He later left his government job and started a private clinic. He wrote many articles for the medical socirty of the College of Grant.  He was also a member and examiner of the Portuguese language at the University of Bombay and was appointed to the position of vice-consul of Portugal in the city of Bombay. For all his services rendered to society, the Portuguese government commended him with the miraculous order of N S Jesus Christ on June 18, 1873.
