José Dionizio Carneiro de Souza e Faro

José Dionizio Carneiro de Souza e Faro was born on 2 Dec 1836 in Goa. He was the son of the colonel of the artillery and the acting director, Bernardo Carneiro de Souza e Faro and D Maria Rita Correa Mendes Carneiro and grandchild of the General and Commander, José Dionisio Carneiro de Souza e Faro who was of European descent. José Dionizio Carneiro de Souza e Faro studied at the chair of the national lyceu of Nova Goa and had a distinction in Mathematics after which he obtained a distinction in the diploma of the Surgical Medical School. He was posted as the Surgeon in Mozambique in 1860 on the ship Angra, when the boat was retired, it served as the hospital of the province. He then went to Portugal on the frigate D Fernando after spending more than two and a half years in Mozambique. He then obtained a doctor’s degree of the health framework and was posted in the Province of Sao Tome and Principe. He was responsible for the treatment of various patients on the island of Principe. He was given a dispensation and appointed clerk of the Province of Sao Tome and Principe where he also served several important commissions. After his posting ended, he returned to Lisbon to a retired life.
