The St. John the Evangelist Church, Neura, Goa is called ‘Sao Joao Evangelista Igreja em Neura, Goa’ in Portuguese. The St. John the Evangelist Church, Neura, Goa is popularly called ‘The Neura Church’ locally in Goa. The Neura Church was built in 1541. Firstly the Neura Church was under the Jesuits. Then a century later the Neura Church came under the Augustinians who opened a seminary in 1622 dedicated to St. John the Evangelist. The Neura Church was rebuilt in 1624. The Augustinians left the Neura church in 1776 giving the charge of the parish to the Diocesan clergy. The top storey of the frontispiece of the Neura church collapsed in the mid nineties and was rebuilt with shortened height.
