St. John the Baptist church, Carambolim was originally a primitive Chapel which was raised to the status of a parish church in 1541. At the time of the epidemic, many parishioners left the village. It was from the St. John the Baptist church, Carambolim parish that Goa got its first priest named Andre Vaz. He was ordained in St. Jerome’s Seminary, Chorao and offered his first Mass in the college of St. Paul, City of Goa (now Old Goa) on 19.5.1558.
