The St. Christopher Church, Tivim, Goa is called ‘Sao Cristovao Igreja em Tivim, Goa’ in Portuguese. The St. Christopher Church, Tivim, Goa is popularly called ‘The Tivim Church’ locally in Goa, The Tivim Church was built in 1623. The Franciscan Rectorate of Tivim, then inclusive of Pirna, Assonora, Sirsaim and Tivim, was founded in 1636 under the patronage of St. Christopher, the martyr. During the Maratha invasion of Bardez in 1683, the Tivim Church and the presbytery were burnt down, but were rebuilt within two years. The parish of the Tivim church extended till Assonora, beyond which was the Apostolic Vicariate of Idalxa (Bijapur). Since 1766, the Tivim church is looked after by the diocesan clergy.
