St. Anthony Church, Vagator, Goa is called ‘Santo Antonio Igreja em Vagator, Goa’ in Portuguese. The St. Anthony Church, Vagator, Goa is also popularly called ‘The Vagator Church’ locally in Goa. The Vagator church was in remote times a Chapel inside the Chapora fort. The Vagator Chapel served the Portuguese military garrison which was stationed at Vagator Fort.. The Vagator chapel was dedicated to St Anthony as the Patron saint of the chapel and was blessed on May 13, 1925. Precisely thirty years later, on May 13, 1955, the St Anthony chapel at Vagator was detached from the Anjuna Parish and elevated into an independent parish. The Parish of St Anthony Church Vagator Goa was thus formed. Vagator which previously was a rural area, is today part of the main tourist locations in Goa.
