The St. Agnes, Virgin and Martyr Church, Santa Inez, Goa is popularly called ‘The St Inez church’ locally in Goa. The St Inez church initially was small chapel built in 1584. The St Inez Chapel was rebuilt in 1605 and one year later it was raised to the rank of a parish church, by provision of November 27,1606. The present St Inez Church was built in 1653. At first the St Inez parish was under the charge of the Augustinians. The diocesan clergy took over the St Inez Church only in 1769. The adjoining parochial residence was, at first, the house of Canon Francisco da Cunha Souto Maior, who bequeathed it to the Archbishop and his successors. The Archbishop of Goa in fact lived there from 1795. The foundation stone of the new parochial residence of the St Inez church was laid in 1982 and it was inaugurated on January 26, 1986. A parish community hall to the St Inez church was added on the top floor in 1989.
