Peter D’Souza ordained as priest

Peter D’Souza, hailing from Siolim, of the order of Missionaries of St Francis de Sales (MEFS) was conferred priesthood by the auxiliary Bishop Neri Ferrao at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatorpa last month.

In a unique case of its kind, the entire ordination service and the ensuing reception was organised and funded by the parishioners of Fatorpa and adjoining areas as an act of love and admiration.

In his homily Bishop Ferrao complimented the good missionary work carried by the MSFS particularly in the areas of Canaguinim, Cabo de Rama and Valpoi and its educational efforts in Bastora, Siolim and Aldona. While conferring his apostolic blessing on the newly ordinated priest, he wished him happiness in his priestly life. Earlier parish priest Fr Tony Nazareth presented Fr Peter’s candidature to the Auxiliary Bishop.

Auxiliary Bishop Ferrao congratulated Fr Peter’s mother Virginia D’Souza and her family, which is based in Tanga, Tazmania, for sacrificing their son to serve as a priest in India. He appealed to all parents to initiate their sons to priesthood and the youth to heed God’s call for service.

Fr Felix Mendes provided the commentary at the ordinatiom. The choir was organised by Fr Sabino Coelho and Denis Lemos, while the music was conducted by Fr Archie and his band. Prominent among those present for the ordination included Fr. Terry Pinto.

The newly ordinated priest will serve at the SFX Higher Secondary School, Siolim.
