New Parish Priest at Neura Church 2019

Neura Church -St. John the Evangelist, Goa is called ‘Sao Joao Evangelista Igreja em Neura, Goa’ in Portuguese. The  Neura Church  was built in 1541. At First the  Church was under the Jesuits. Then a century later the  Church came under the Augustinians who opened a seminary in 1622 dedicated to St. John the Evangelist. The  Church was rebuilt in 1624. The Augustinians left the church in 1776 giving the charge of the parish to the Diocesan clergy.

The church with such a rich history will be bestowed upon by a new Parish Priest . Rev. Fr. Joaquim Francisco Carmo Olavo de Silveira e Souza this coming Pastoral year 2019-20 in accordance to ordinance no CP-P/34/2019. Fr. Joaquim is a native of Velsao and was born on 3rd March 1953. He was ordinated into priesthood on 27th April 1980. Previously Fr. Joaquim has worked in The St. Stephen Church, Santo Estevao, Goa.

The Number of Catholics in the Parish of St. John the Evangelist Church, Neura, Goa is above  500.The Feast of St. John the Evangelist Church, Neura, Goa is celebrated on 27th December every year. Along with spiritual help Fr. Joaquim will have to help the people in maintaining their farm lands as well as khazan lands for over-exploitation and irregularities.
