Fr. Sebastião appointed as new Parish Priest at St. Joseph of Areal Church

The St. Joseph of Areal Church at Sao Jose De Areal, Goa is called ‘Sao Jose de Areal Igreja em Goa’ in Portuguese. The Church was originally a chapel affiliated to the church of Curtorim. The Chapel of St. Jose De Areal was later rebuilt to cater to the growing Catholic community. The  Chapel was finally raised to a Parish church in September 1826. This Parish will be bestowed upon by a new Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Sebastião Eusico Lourenco Pereira is appointed as the new Parish Priest for the new Pastoral year starting in June.

Fr. Sebastião was born in Ribandar on 3rd June 1996. He was ordinated into Priesthood on 4th May 1993. He worked as  the Vicar in the Church of St John the Evangelist in Neura, and was then appointed  Dean of the Goa Velha Deanery on 17 January 2008. He was transferred to St. Stephen Church, Santo Estevao in 2012, where he served until he was transfered to St. Joseph of Areal Church. Here Fr Sebastião will take charge of over 10,000 Parishoners.

The Religious Order present in the parish  is the religious women order of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany. The feast of St. Joseph of Areal Church is  celebrated on the second Sunday of October every year.
