Faith in Our Lady cure’s Eve’s blindness

It was a miracle of sorts, she was almost blind. But Phyllis Veena Edmund (36), could hardly conceal her bout of joy when just after a reverie on a fateful day, she suddenly regained her lost eye-sight.

The National Association for the Blind (NAB) had declared Veena ‘legally blind” and had even issued concession certificate to enable her to get a phone booth. “I could only see flashes of light and suffered from night blindness,” Veena, who is practicing Homoeopathy at home, said. One of the doctors she had consulted a few years ago had told her to give up all hope and only a “miracle can save you”.

The general observation of the city’s best expert was that she was suffering from “Retena De Generation”. She had encountered the degeneration problem at the age of five. Till she was 30, Veena had to change her spectacles every year.

During 1980-81, Veena had gone to K E M Hospital. The number of her glasses was minus 8 and minus 9. The number went on increasing to minus 16 (the left eye) and minus 15 (the right eye).

A famous eye hospital at Juhu gave Veena the last number, beyond which nothing could be expected. Incidentally, she went to Mount Mary at Bandra and donated “silver eyes” to propitiate the diety. She had also put on drops of Holy Lourdes water, which Veena had received from a place called Lourdes in France.

Soon after, she regained her eyesight a couple of month ago, Veena went to doctor D D Gholap, whom she had consulted on an earlier occasion. The doctor couldn’t believe the miracle till he finally tested her eyes.
