The Fifth bishop of Goan origin was D Caetano António, born in Divar, the island in Goa near Panjim, Goa. D Caetano Antonio was a Doctor of Theology, apparently trained at the University of Rome. He was also a religious man of the congregation of S. Felippe Nery of Goa, and as such he left the surname Pereira of the family to which he belonged, and which is now extinct. Going as a missionary to the island of Ceylon, he was appointed after the death of his sacred predecessor with the title of bishop of Usula and apostolic vicar of Colombo in the year 1843 and died on January 25, 1857, at the age of 79.
