Constantino José de Brito, was born in Ponda, Goa. He was the son of Jose Ignacio de Brito, who was an engineer in the Portuguese departments. Constantino Jose de Brito was a distinction student of the mathematical and military school in Goa. He left to pursue further studies in Portugal in 1857, where he attended and obtained the diploma course in engineering in the Polytechnic school. After completion of his studies, he was transferred to the Engineering department of Goa. He married the daughter of the Viscount of Villa Nova d’Ourem who was the governor general of India.
