Bridgettine Sisters ( O.Ss.S.)

Bridgettine Sisters ( O.Ss.S.) (Order of the most Holy Saviour of St. Bridget)

In Goa since 1994

Brief historical Background
This order was founded by St. Bridget, after the death of her husband in 1344, having received papal approval in 1370. As the 20th century began, the order was almost facing its extinction when, according the designs of the Divine Providence, Elizabeth Hesselblad, born in a Swedish Lutheran family, but converted to the Catholic faith in the year 1902, at the age of 32, came in contact with the order soon after her conversion. This signalled the beginning of a revival in the Bridgettine houses all over the world. Today there are 36 Bridgettine hospitality houses in 13 countries. The house in Goa is one of 12 such houses in India.
